Summary :

3 photograph albums centering on the Rufus T. Whitmore family of Rutland and Brandon, Vermont. Many of the photographs are of the Huntoon family, including Josiah and Elizabeth Whitmore Huntoon, and their children. The albums include photographs of several Civil War soldiers, including Franklin True Huntoon, Edson M. Raymond, and Colonel George Deryea. Some of the family names related to the Whitmores contained in the album are: Abbey, Bartholomew, Chase, Delano, Munger, Needham, Randall, Sweitzer, and Taylor.

Biographical or historical data :

Rufus T. Whitmore was born on May 23, 1778, in Sterling, Massachusetts, the son of Benjamin and Sarah (Thompson), and married Saloma Church (1781-1861)on April 27, 1800. They had eight surviving children: Cyrus R. (1801-1889); Guerdon T. (1804-1881); Earl D. (1806-1871); Orpha C. (1809-1846); Samantha M. (1811-1885); Elizabeth W. (1813-1882); Saloma A. (1819-1848); Joel Rufus (1822-1898). Rufus T. Whitmore died April 8, 1874.

Elizabeth W. Whitmore married Josiah Huntoon (1812-1862) on November 12, 1839 in Rutland, Vermont. They had three children: Charles Francis (1840-1881); Henry Melvin (b. 1841-1865); Albert Josiah (b. 1844).
