A surgeon's discharge certificate for Romeo W. Merrill, a private in Company K, 1st Vermont Cavalry Regiment , dated December 13, 1862. The certificate contains physical information about Merrill, including his age, height, complexion, and hair and eye color. The folder also contains a deed for land purchased by Joseph Merrill in Fairfax, Vermont, dated April 27, 1805.

Biographical or historical data :

Romeo W. Merrill, the son of Moses and Aurelia Merrill, was born in Fairfield, Vermont in 1833. A farmer, he enlisted in Co. K, 1st Vermont Volunteer Cavalry Regiment on November 6, 1861. He was discharged for disability December 12, 1862 and died March 3, 1863. He is buried in Bradley Cemetery, in East Fairfield, Vermont.
