Summary :

The collection is primarily comprised of diaries written by Annie Bradley Sargent (1883-1965) of Ludlow, Vermont, between 1901 and 1963, and by her mother, Ada Bradley (1847-1934), also of Ludlow, Vermont, between 1929 through 1933.

The diaries reflect the life of an upper-middle class couple in Ludlow, Vermont, during the first half of the twentieth century. The diaries record the family's social life, the close relationship between mother and daughter, and comments on such national news as the stock market crash in 1929 and the death of Plymouth, Vermont native, President Calvin Coolidge. The endpapers of many of the diaries are covered with small clippings recording social events of the time.

Biographical or historical data :

Ada Graham, born January, 1847, married John B. Bradley on December 24, 1880. He worked as a boss rigger in a wood mill in Ludlow, Vermont. They had two children: Annie C., born July 8, 1883 and Henry. born October, 1885. Ada died on November 21, 1934.

Annie C. Bradley, daughter of John B. and Ada Bradley, married Winfield Darwin Sargent (born March 28, 1880), the son of Darwin and Etta M. Sargent, on August 1, 1906. Winfield D. Sargent worked as speculator in wood and pulp. They had one daughter, Lael Sargent, born October 19, 1913. Winfield died September 5, 1959 and Annie died April 17, 1965.
