Biographical or historical data :

Dr. Jonathan Whitmarsh Shaw (1771-1839) practiced medicine as a surgeon in the U.S. Army, 1812-1814, and in Rutland, Vt., 1817-1820. In 1823 he moved to Clarendon Springs, Vt., where he owned a sawmill.
