Summary :

Account book kept by Martin Luther Dimock of Hartford, Vermont for the years 1852 to 1862. Dimock appears to have been an entrepreneur, working as a plasterer for the Bethel telegraph office, for several railroads as a clerk, and as a farm laborer. At the back of the account book, Dimock inventories his assets for the years 1849 to 1862. These include wages from teaching school, promissory notes, and investments in land and livestock.

Biographical or historical data :

Martin Luther Dimock was born in Hartford, Vermont in 1828, the son of Chauncey and Serepta Dimick. He is listed in the 1850 Vermont census as working for Charles Tinkham, a merchant in Hartford, Vermont. He married Ellen Loomis Barlow in September 10, 1861, in Woodstock, Vermont and died on August 11, 1862 at the age of 34.
