Title : Typescripts of the 1800 United States census taken in Vermont.
Physical Description : .5 linear ft.
Summary :

Typescripts of the 1800 U.S. Census for Vermont arranged by town. Within each town each head of household is listed alphabetically, with a group of "uncertain names" listed at the end of the alphabet. The transcriber has created columns for each of the twelve data elements collected by the census taker: free white males divided into five age-based categories, free white females divided into the same five age-based categories, "all other free persons, except Indians not taxed," and slaves. These typescripts may be the drafts for the printed version of the census which the Vermont Historical Society published in 1938 under the title Heads of Families at the Second Census of the United States Taken in the Year 1800, Vermont.

Related Collections : Bound photostats of the manuscript census are filed at * Elephant folio 929 V59u 1800. These may be the source documents for the typescripts in this collection. The published form of the 1800 U.S. Census for Vermont, perhaps created from these typescripts, is shelved in the Reference Room under the call number 929 V59u 1800
