Summary :

Farm journal kept by Albert R. Pierce starting when he was sixteen years old. In it he documents details of farm life including shearing sheep, sugaring, keeping bees, and planting crops. He includes diagrams of the fields with notations of what was planted. His accounts cover the years 1866 to 1868 and include lists of purchases including clothing, tools, stationary and reading material.

Biographical or historical data :

Albert R. Pierce, the son of Nathan P. and Anna (Burnap) Pierce, was born in Townshend, Vermont on February 16, 1837. In the spring of 1861, he moved to Dunbar, Minnesota to farm. Sometime between 1868 and 1872, he returned to Townshend, Vermont, where he ran the general store. He married Eliza S. Phelps, the daughter of James Phelps, in 1875. By 1900 he was farming in Suffield, Connecticut.
