Summary :

An account book and daybook documenting Orange Britell's fulling mill during the years he lived in Weybridge, Vermont. The account book covers the period primarily from 1821 to 1850. The entries are much sparser from 1854 to 1865. The account book also contains a small collection of loose material, including family letters, receipts, and a deed dating from 1803. The daybook covers the years 1838 to 1847 and is divided into two sections. One section is titled "Wool Received for Manufactoren 1838". In the center are several poems signed D. L. G. and dated 1890.

Biographical or historical data :

Orange Britell was born in Ferrisburgh, Vermont on September 13, 1801, the son of John and Elizabeth (Hobbs) Britell. Britell opened a fulling mill on the west bank of Otter Creek in Weybridge, Vermont. In 1850, Britell emigrated to California. After four years he returned to Weybridge but only remained there three years, returning to California until 1865, when he returned to Weybridge, remaining there until his death.
