Summary :

The collection consists largely of unidentified family portraits that belonged to Bernice E. Hale, who grew up in Montpelier, Vermont. The portraits are from the 1880s to the 1920s; many are the work of Montpelier and Barre, Vermont, photographers. The names of the local photographers are included in the inventory. There are several unidentified Montpelier school classes for the period 1915-1920. These probably were taken at the time Bernice and Florence were attending these schools. An early photograph, winter 1897-98, of a class at North Fayston's (Vermont) School No. 2, has no identification of the children or their teacher.

Later photographs, 1929-1960, include Bernice outside her Huntington, Long Island, home, as well as a picture of Bernice and her sister, Florence, ca. 1930 and a some photographs of a trip to the west in 1935.
