The collection includes three items: two teaching examination certificates dated December 27, 1852, stating that Miss Sarah S. Bardwell is qualified to teach in District School No. 5, Windsor, Vermont, and a letter from Sarah's sister-in-law, Wealthy G. Bardwell, wife of Jeremiah H. Bardwell of Easthampton, Massachusetts, dated December 9, 1855. The letter contains family news and information about boarders.

Biographical or historical data :

Sarah Bardwell was born in 1830 in Goshen, Massachusetts, the daugher of Selah Bardwell and Clarissa Horsford. By 1852 she was teaching school in Windsor, Vermont and on December 25, 1856 she married Robert McGrath.
