This is a collection of mimeographed and printed flyers, memos, and pamphlets about Civilian Defense during World War II collected by Clarence Favreau (1899-1990), Acting Director of Defense, in West Townshend, Vermont.

The collection is arranged in two parts. The first is a group of numbered orders from the Vermont Council of Safety to local and district defense directors with titles such as "Local Blackout Officers Regulations," "Public Distribution of Instructions for Fighting Incendiary Bombs," "Air Raid Instructor's Manual."

The second group is less homogeneous. It includes mimeographed items from the Vermont Council of Safety, the Office of Civilian Defense in Washington, U.S. Department of Agriculture, U.S. Department of Labor, Children's Bureau, and other sources. All date from World War II.

Related Collections : The Vermont Historical Society manuscript collection includes several boxes of papers related to Civilian Defense and the history of Vermont's participation in World War II. They are housed in MSC 117-118 and MSC 128-131.
The manuscript collection of the Vermont Historical Society also includes a collection of broadsides from Mr. Favreau's company, West River Printing Co. (MSA 221), and the 4-H club records collected by his wife, Marjorie Favreau, 1933-1944 (MSA 242:1-9).
