The series contains a letter written by Joseph Fairbanks (1763-1853) to his son, Joseph Paddock Fairbanks (1806-1855) dated March 9, 1834. Also a presentation copy of Washington's Farewell Address, 1812.

Biographical or historical data :

Joseph Fairbanks was born November 1, 1763 in Brimfield, Massachusetts, son of Ebenezer and Elizabeth Dearth Fairbanks. He married Phebe Paddocks on October 21, 1790. They had three children: Erastus, Thaddeus and Joseph Paddock. In 1815 he moved to Saint Johnsbury, Vermont and built a sawmill and gristmill. He died September 27, 1853.
