The collection contains correspondence between Moses C. Glines and his wife consisting of 22 letters, 7 letters by James M. Jones to his wife and brother-in-law, Moses and 3 letters by correspondents whose relationship to Glines and Jones is unknown.

The letters of Moses Glines deal with life in camp, battle experiences and his wounds. Hannah Glines writes about the difficulties of running the farm and of worries about money. Most of the letters of James M. Jones were written to Moses Glines while he was in the hospital and after his discharge. They deal with camp news and information about his pension. One letter contains a story about a slave that Jones helped to escape. Jones' letter to his wife describes his duties as a wagoner.

Biographical or historical data :

Moses C. Glines of Tunbridge, Vermont, enlisted as a private in Co. E, 2nd Vermont Regiment on April 22, 1861. He was wounded at the First Battle of Bull Run on July 21, 1861 and was discharged on January 4, 1862. He was married to Hannah J. Grant of Washington, Vermont.

James M. Jones of Tunbridge, Vermont, a wagoner in Co. E, 2nd Vermont Regiment, enlisted on the same day as Moses Glines and was discharged on September 30, 1862. He married Matilda J. Grant, Hannah's sister, on March 30, 1856.
