Biographical or historical data :

David A. Smalley was born April 6, 1809, in Middlebury, Vermont, son of Zera Smalley. He was educated at the Saint Albans Academy and studied law at the office of Smalley and Adams, Saint Albans, Vermont. In 1836 he moved to Burlington, Vermont and opened a law office in partnership with Jacob Maeck. He remained in practice in Burlington until 1857 when he was appointed to the United States District Court for Vermont. He died March , 1877.
