Summary :

This collection mostly encompasses the work that Professor Hitchcock did in documenting catamount sightings, primarily in Vermont, but also including other states and countries. This was a project of his retirement years. Also included here are some papers on bat and other mammal studies which date from his research studies done at Middlebury College.

Biographical or historical data :

Harold Bradford Hitchcock (1903-1995) was born in Hartford, Ct. He received his doctorate from Harvard University in 1938. He began his teaching career at the University of Western Ontario in 1939 and continued there until 1943 when he accepted an appointment at Middlebury College. Following retirement in 1968 he held appointments at Boston University, Norwich University, University of Hawaii, and Bates College. During his later retirement years he devoted much time to gathering catamount sightings.
