Daniel F. Cooledge was born in Ludlow, Vermont on December 3, 1839. He enlisted in Company A, 2nd Vermont Regiment on October 16, 1861 and served as a private until September 16, 1862. He was wounded received at Savage's Station, Virginia during the Seven Day's Battles, taken prisoner and exchanged on July 22, 1862.
