Letters from Leverett Putnam Lovell to his parents, Frances S. and L.C. Lovell, in Rockingham, Vt, while serving in the Navy during World War II and the Korean War.

During World War II, Lovell served in the Asian Pacific and the Eastern Atlantic and Mediterranean theaters. Most of the letters during this period were written while he was serving on the cruiser U.S.S. Quincy. He served on the destroyer U.S.S. Colahan during the Korean War.

Included among the correspondence are examples of V-mail, as well as an Easter "form" letter, 1944, designed by the Navy to meet the needs of the non-letter writer. There are also miscellaneous service records of Lovell's, 1950-1952, and a menu, program, and personnel handbook from the U.S.S. Quincy.

Biographical or historical data :

Leverett Putnam Lovell was born September 13, 1924, the son of Frances S. and L.C. Lovell, in Rockingham, Vermont. He enlisted in the U.S. Navy on February 22, 1943. He was discharged in January 1946 and was recalled to active duty December 1950. He served as Seaman 1st Class during World War II and as Torpedoman Seaman during the Korean War.
