Summary :

This collection includes the contents of the job packets that D. W. Edson Co. maintained from 1913 through 1982. The packets contained samples of printing work, some with annotations indicating changes in wording or design, and includes ordering information.

This collection represents many aspects of life in Montpelier for the period 1913-1982. There are samples from virtually all prominant businesses as well as menus from diners and letterhead from fuel oil distributors. Social life is documented with programs, membership directories, and posters. There are also samples of work done for churches and town governments.

Biographical or historical data :

D. W. Edson Co., a printing business in Montpelier, Vt., was founded by Dean W. Edson in 1902. His son and daughter, Elroy and Marcia Edson, took control of the business in 1933, and in 1946 Marcia's son, James Sheridan, took over. James Sheridan Jr. assumed control in 1990. The letterpress print shop served not only businesses but the city of Montpelier, the state, local churches and other organizations. The shop closed in 1996.
