The Shrewsbury, Vt., Bicentennial Committee, comprised of townspeople, first met in May 1989 in response to the Vermont Bicentennial Commission's call for locally planned celebrations across the state to celebrate the 200th anniversary of Vermont's entry as the 14th state in the union in 1991. Events in Shrewsbury included a noon tolling of the bells (March 4, 1991), a parade (May 5, 1991), Homecoming Weekend (July 27-28, 1991), and an afternoon of chamber music (June 14, 1992). Bicentennial projects included a competition for a logo which was reproduced on T-shirts, tote bags, the cover of the 1990 town report, stickers, and buttons. The committee met for the last time on May 11, 1992.
