Indexed letterbook of Perley P. Pitkin as Assistant Quartermaster of the U. S. Volunteers, 1864.

Perley P. Pitkin of Montpelier, Vt., was commissioned 1st Lieutenant and Regimental Quartermaster for the 2nd Vermont Regiment on June 6, 1861. He was promoted to Captain, and named Assistant Quartermaster, U.S. Volunteers, on February 19, 1862. He was made Colonel and Chief Quartermaster, U.S. Volunteers, on August 2, 1864. He resigned on November 7, 1864, to accept a promotion as Quartermaster-General, State of Vermont, with rank of Brigadier General. He held that office for six years by successive elections. He died at Montpelier, Vt., on July 28, 1891.
