Letter, 1864 July 14, from Henry H. Lewis of Co. H, 11th Vermont Regiment, to his parents in Woodstock, Vt. He is a prisoner along with several other men he lists, and is requesting supplies from home.

Biographical or historical data :

Henry C.H. Lewis was born in 1846 at Manchester, N.H., the son of Erastus Lewis. He enlisted as a Private in Co. H, 11th Vermont Regiment, on December 9, 1863. He was taken prisoner on May 23, 1864. He was paroled on December 13, 1864, was transferred to Co. B on June 24, 1865, and was mustered out of the service on August 25, 1865. He died of heart disease and nephritis on October 16, 1896, at Burlington, Vt., and was buried there in Lake View Cemetery.
