Letters, 1862-1864, from John Wilmot of Co. H of the 4th Vermont Regiment, to Saphronia A. (Ann) Prescott in Post Mills, Vt., who became his wife in late 1863 or early 1864. The letters describe his health, the activity of his regiment, and arrangements he makes to send money home to care for Saphronia and their daughter.

Biographical or historical data :

John Wilmot of Thetford, Vt., was born in 1842. He enlisted as a Private in Co. H, 4th Vermont Regiment, on September 9, 1861. On December 15, 1863, he re-enlisted, and was promoted to Corporal on April 1, 1864. On May 5, 1864, he was wounded at Wilderness, Va., and died of those wounds a few weeks later on June 17. He is buried in the National Cemetery at Philadelphia, Pa. A marker in his name exists in Post Mills Cemetery at Thetford, Vt.
