Papers of Sylvanus Nye family of Berlin, Vt., 1803-1873, including deeds, mortgages, and insurance papers; inventories of the estates of David Nye in 1832, and Cornelius Nye in 1864; Sylvanus Nye's justice of the peace appointments; and papers relating to Berlin.

The collection also includes Civil War letters from Cornelius Nye of the 2nd Vermont Regiment, Co. D, to his nephew and brother, 1862-1864.

Biographical or historical data :

Cornelius Nye, of Berlin, Vt., was born in 1827. He enlisted as a Private with Co. D, 2nd Vermont Regiment, on August 14, 1862. He was killed in action on May 5, 1864, at Wilderness, Va. His body was reportedly buried on the battlefield. A memorial to Cornelius Nye was erected at Berlin, Vt., in the East Road Cemetery.
