Civil War letters from I. W. Spooner to family and friends, dated March [30, 1862?], March 5, 1864; March 12, 1865. Also a letter from Captain Henry Boyd of the 4th Vermont Regiment, Co. E, Petersburg, Va., to an unidentified recipient, addressing the "negro question." In the letter he describes I. W. Spooner's service record and his skill at "lassooing" blacks to capture them.

Irvin W. Spooner of Bethel, Vt., enlisted in Co. E of the 4th Vermont Regiment September 3, 1861. He re-enlisted December 15, 1863, was wounded May 5, 1864, and was mustered out July 13, 1865.
