Summary :

Letter from Andrew J. Lawrence in the 3rd Vermont Regiment to his mother, Mary (Parker) Lawrence. He describes the aftermath of the Battle of Dranesville, and mentions the skirmish at Blackwater Creek, Missouri. He also describes Washington, D.C. and possible business opportunities that might interest his brother-in-law, James Merrill Batchelder.

Biographical or historical data :

Andrew J. Lawrence, the son of Spencer and Mary (Parker) Lawrence, was born in January, 1837. He enlisted in Montpelier, Vermont as a corporal in the band of the 3rd Vermont Infantry Regiment. He was mustered in July 16, 1861 and discharged August 9, 1862. His sister, Amanda M. Lawrence, was born October 8, 1833 and married James Merrill Batchelder on October 15, 1852. They lived in Plainfield, Vermont.
