Twenty three pocket diaries kept by Orlo H. Austin of Barton Landing from 1864 to 1893. Lacking are 1866-1870 and 1872-1873. 1864-1865 are Civil War diaries, in which he served as captain of Battery A of the 1st Vermont Regiment Heavy Artillery.

Biographical or historical data :

Orlo H. Austin of Brownington, Vt., was commissioned 2nd lieutenant of Co. F of the 11th Vermont Regiment (First Regiment Heavy Artillery) August 12, 1862, then was commissioned 1st lieutenant of Co. I of the 11th Vermont Regiment. November 22, 1862. On September 2, 1864 he was commissioned captain of the 11th Vermont Regiment, Co. A. He was mustered out June 24, 1865.
