Eleven pocket diaries kept by Luther B. Hunt of Fairfax, Vt., covering 1862-1891. In the first diary he describes his military service from January 1, 1862 to June 1, 1862, including the fall of Ft. Donelson at which he was present as a lieutenant of the 45th Illinois Regiment. Other entries are mostly about weather and life in Fairfax.

Biographical or historical data :

Luther B. Hunt of Fairfax, Vt., enlisted at Wataga, Illinois, in Co. K of the 45 Illinois Regiment. He resigned June 1, 1862, and served with Grant's army at Ft. Henry, Ft. Donelson and Pittsburg Landing. He re-enlisted in Co. B of the 138th Illinois Regiment, May 13, 1864, and was mustered out October 15, 1864.
