Summary :

About ninety Civil War and family letters, 1860-1864, addressed to Dudley Tillison at Underhill, Vt., from his father, Charles C. Tillison, in the 2nd Vermont Regiment; his brother, Theodore J. Tillison, in a Massachusetts regiment; C. E. Day; William C. Jackson, in the 2nd Vermont Regiment, Co. A; B. G. Ward; A. N. Clark; Warner Tillison; and by other friends and relatives.

Biographical or historical data :

Charles Tillison of Underhill, Vt., was born about 1817. He enlisted as a Private in Co. E, 2nd Vermont Regiment, on August 30, 1862. On May 23, 1864, (June, 1864, according to the Revised Roster of Vermont Volunteers) he was lost overboard and drowned on a voyage from City Point to Alexandria, Va. A marker in his memory was erected in Underhill Flats Cemetery at Underhill, Vt.

Converse E. Day of Underhill, Vt., enlisted as a Private in Co. G, 2nd Vermont Regiment, on August 28, 1862. He was killed in action on May 5, 1864, at Wilderness, Va.

William C. Jackson was born in 1839 at Underhill, Vt. He enlisted as a Private in Co. A., 2nd Vermont Regiment, on March 4, 1862. He was killed in action on May 5, 1864, at Wilderness, Va. His body was returned to Vermont, and was buried in the North Underhill Cemetery.

Byron C. Ward of Underhill, Vt., enlisted as a Private in Co. G, 2nd Vermont Regiment, on August 26, 1862. He was wounded at Wilderness, Va., on May 5, 1864. He was promoted to Sergeant on September 1, 1864, and to 1st Sergeant on December 24, 1864. That same day, December 24, 1864, he was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant. He was mustered out of the service on June 19, 1865.

Abel N. Clark of Underhill, Vt., was born on November 21, 1818. He enlisted as a Private in Co. G., 2nd Vermont Regiment, on August 29, 1862, and was mustered out on June 19, 1865. He died of old age at Madrid, N.Y., on June 20, 1905, and was buried at Underhill Flats Cemetery, Underhill, Vt.

Warren M. Tillison of Underhill, Vt., enlisted as a Private in Co. E, 2nd Vermont Regiment, on August 30, 1862. He was wounded April 2, 1865, at Petersburg, Va., and deserted two days later.
