Letter, July 8, 1862, from Stephen F. Spaulding to James S. Peck giving a candid and unusual account of life in the 8th Vermont Regiment and New Orleans.

Biographical or historical data :

Stephen F. Spaulding was born in 1840. He was commissioned a 1st Lieutenant in Co. B, 8th Vermont Regiment, on December 19, 1861. His home residence at that time was Derby, Vt. He was killed in action at Port Hudson, La., on June 14, 1863. His body was returned to Vermont, and was buried in Gordon Cemetery at Derby Line.
