Summary :

Letters to Wealthy Field of Jericho, Vt., 1862-1865, from soldiers fighting the Civil War. Two letters are from Roswell Hunt of Co. D of the 10th Vermont Regiment, several are from Field's cousin William Church, and the rest are from Martin Lester Clark, Battery F of the 11th Vermont Regiment.

Biographical or historical data :

Roswell Hunt, of Burlington, Vt., enlisted in Co. D, 10th Vermont Regiment, on August 1, 1862. He was wounded on June 17, 1864, was promoted to Corporal on March 1, 1865, and was mustered out on June 22, 1865.

Martin L. Clark was born on February 8, 1848, at Swanton, Vt. He enlisted in Co. F, 11th Vermont Regiment, on November 13, 1863. He was taken prisoner on June 23, 1864 at Weldon Railroad, Va., and died at Andersonville, Ga., on August 31, 1864. He was buried either at the National Cemetery, Andersonville, Ga., or Church Street Cemetery, Swanton, Vt. A marker exists at the latter location.
