This volume contains by-laws, minutes, and financial records kept by the New England Protective Union, Division 154, of Jamaica, Vt., from its inception in 1850 to its dissolution in 1857.

Biographical or historical data :

The New England Protective Union, established in 1849, was a cooperative movement which provided city markets for rural produce in exchange for goods to stock local stores. At. the height of the movement there were 200 Divisions (or Lodges) in Vermont. The movement gradually lost momentum during the 1850's and disappeared by the end of the Civil War.
